How to play

Down to One is a short math puzzle game about factors. You start each level holding a number, and in front of you are four rows of four numbers between 1 and 16. Going down row by row, you pick one number from each row.

If the number you pick divides your current number evenly, you divide by it. If it does not, it gets added instead. After the fourth row you see where you ended up. Hitting exactly 1 is an ACE. Anything under 10 earns a LOW, and higher than that is just High, which is your cue to try again.

The starting number is the same as the level number, so level 1 begins at 1 and the numbers climb from there. There are 256 levels. Each level always has the same grid, so you can replay it until you find the route to 1. Your current level and your best result on each level are saved in this browser, and the level list shows how you did on each one.

Controls

Tips

  1. 1Work backwards. To end on 1 after the last row, your number before it must equal one of the numbers in that row.
  2. 2Adding is not always bad. A small addition early on can turn your number into something with lots of factors, like 12 or 16.
  3. 31 always divides, but it never changes anything. Treat it as a way to skip a row.
  4. 4If a level is not working out, restart it right away instead of finishing a run you know will be High.

Knowing small times tables helps, but most of the game is planning a route through four choices.
