How to play

Double Tiles is a number merge game played on a 4×4 board. Every move slides all the tiles in one direction as far as they will go. When two tiles with the same number run into each other, they combine into a single tile worth twice as much. Two 2s become a 4, two 4s become an 8, and it keeps doubling from there.

After each move a new tile, usually a 2 and sometimes a 4, appears in an empty square. The round ends when the board is full and no two neighbouring tiles match. Build a 2048 tile to win. You can then keep going and see how high you can push it, or start over.

Each merge adds the new tile's value to your score. Your best score stays in this browser, and so does the board you are playing, so you can close the page and come back to the same position later.

Credits

Double Tiles is a modified version of the open-source game 2048 by Gabriele Cirulli, released under the MIT License. For physoe we redrew the board, changed the layout for phones and rewrote the text. The original copyright and license notice is included with the game files.

Tips

  1. 1Choose one corner for your biggest tile and keep it there for the whole game.
  2. 2Most of the time you only need two or three directions. Save the fourth for emergencies, because it usually pulls your big tile out of its corner.
  3. 3Line up the edge next to your corner from large to small so that merges roll toward the corner.
  4. 4A full, orderly bottom row is worth more than a quick small merge that leaves gaps.
