How to play

Gem Trio is a match 3 game played on an 8×8 board of gems in six colours, each with its own shape so they are easy to tell apart. Swap two neighbouring gems to make a line of three or more of the same kind across or down. The line clears, the gems above fall into the gap and new ones drop in from the top.

When falling gems form new lines by themselves, that is a chain. Each step of a chain multiplies its points by the chain number, so the second clear in a chain is worth double, the third triple and so on. Longer lines are worth more too. A swap that does not make a match slides straight back and costs nothing.

Each game gives you 30 moves. When they run out you see your final score, and your best score is kept in this browser. If the board ever has no possible move left, it reshuffles on its own. Stuck for ideas? Press Hint, or wait a few seconds and a possible move will start to glow.

Controls

Desktop

Click a gem and then a neighbouring gem to swap them, or drag one gem onto its neighbour.

Mobile

Swipe a gem towards the neighbour you want to swap with, or tap two neighbouring gems one after the other.

Tips

  1. 1Work near the bottom of the board when you can. Clears down there move more gems and are more likely to set off chains.
  2. 2Look for five-in-a-row chances before taking an easy three. A longer line is worth more.
  3. 3With 30 moves, every move counts. A swap that sets up a second match is better than one that only clears three.
  4. 4Use the hint when you are stuck rather than spending a move on a guess.

FAQ

30 per game. The counter is at the top of the board.

No. If the swap does not make a match, the gems swap back and the move is not counted.

Each clear in a chain is multiplied by its position in the chain: ×2 for the second, ×3 for the third and so on.

The board reshuffles automatically and you keep playing.

Yes, in your browser.
