How to play

Island Links is a bridges puzzle game, the logic puzzle also known as Hashi or Hashiwokakero. The board is a sea dotted with islands, and each island carries a number. Your job is to connect them with bridges.

The rules are short. A bridge runs in a straight line, across or up and down, between two islands. Two islands can share one bridge or a double bridge, never more. Bridges may not cross each other or pass over a third island. Each island must end up with exactly as many bridges as its number, and every island has to be reachable from every other one by walking over bridges. When all of that is true, the puzzle is solved.

Under Type you can pick a 7×7, 10×10 or 15×15 map, each in Easy, Medium or Hard. New gives you a fresh puzzle, Restart clears your bridges, and Undo and Redo step through your moves. If you get completely stuck, Solve fills in the answer, but a puzzle you finish that way does not count as a win.

Credits

Island Links is based on Bridges from Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection, released under the MIT License. Bridges was written by James Harvey. We built a new page around the official web version, with a phone layout, Chinese text, touch controls and a Build/Mark switch. The original copyright and license notice is included with the game files.

Controls

Desktop

Drag from one island to a neighbour to lay a bridge. Drag again for a double bridge, and a third time to remove it. Switch to Mark to note places where no bridge can go.

Mobile

Drag your finger from island to island to build bridges. Use the Build / Mark buttons under the board to switch between laying bridges and marking gaps.

Tips

  1. 1Start with islands whose number fills every possible direction, such as a 4 in a corner or an 8 in open water. All of their bridges are forced.
  2. 2Two islands showing 1 can never be linked to each other, because they would be cut off from everything else. The same goes for a double bridge between two 2s.
  3. 3Use Mark on gaps you have ruled out. It saves you from checking the same spot again later.
  4. 4Near the end, look for groups of islands with only one way out. That last link has to be a bridge.

FAQ

One or two. A third drag removes them.

No. Bridges only run horizontally or vertically, and they cannot cross other bridges.

Yes. The generator makes puzzles with a single solution that can be reached by logic.

7×7 Easy is a gentle start. 15×15 Hard is a long session even for people who know the rules well.

Yes. The board scales to the screen and you draw bridges with your finger.
