How to play

Pipe Spin is a pipe rotation puzzle. The board is a grid of square tiles, and each tile holds a piece of pipe: a straight, a bend, a T-junction or a dead end. At the start they are all twisted the wrong way. Turn them until every pipe connects into one network that starts from the glowing tile in the middle.

A tile that is part of the connected network lights up, so you can always see how far the flow has reached. The puzzle is solved when every tile is lit and no pipe points into a wall or into an empty side of its neighbour. Each puzzle has exactly one solution.

Type offers 5×5, 7×7, 9×9, 11×11 and 13×11 boards. Every size also comes in a wrapping version, where pipes that run off one edge come back on the opposite side, which makes things much less obvious. New, Restart, Undo and Redo work the way you would expect. Solve shows the answer, but finishing a board that way does not count as a win.

Credits

Pipe Spin is based on Net from Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection, released under the MIT License. We built a new page around the official web version, with a phone layout, Chinese text, touch controls and buttons for rotating left, rotating right and locking. The original copyright and license notice is included with the game files.

Controls

Desktop

Pick ↺ Left or ↻ Right under the board, then click a tile to rotate it that way. Switch to 🔒 Lock and click a tile to pin it in place.

Mobile

Tap a tile to rotate it. The buttons under the board choose the turn direction, and 🔒 Lock lets you pin tiles you are sure about.

Tips

  1. 1Start at the border. A pipe can never point out of a non-wrapping board, so edge and corner tiles have very few legal positions.
  2. 2Dead-end tiles next to each other cannot face each other, because that would make a tiny network cut off from the rest.
  3. 3Lock every tile you have proved. On large boards it stops you from turning a finished area by accident.
  4. 4On wrapping boards there is no edge to start from. Look for straight pieces and T-junctions squeezed between tiles you already know.
